Surprising Statistics during Life Insurance Awareness Month!

Jack Nachtrab Life Insurance Consultant

September is Life Insurance Awareness Month, which is a great opportunity to discuss life insurance with your clients; whether that means implementing life insurance into their financial plan, updating their current coverage, or reviewing coverage with them to make sure they have enough.

Here are some statistics from LIMRA to further show the need for life insurance coverage and the tremendous opportunity in that market:

  • A record-high 42% of American adults say they either need life insurance or need more life insurance
  • Research shows approximately 72% of Americans overestimate the cost of life insurance
  • Only 51% of American adults say they have some form of life insurance coverage
  • 47% of American families say they would have trouble paying living expenses following the death of a wage earner
  • 40% of adults say their family would not be financially secure should a wage earner die unexpectedly
  • Only 29% of consumers feel they are knowledgeable about life insurance
